Evolution of Media and Evo1 Assignment

What rhymes with 3rd day? || Thursday

In this meeting, we discussed about the evolution of media, a tool for information and communication, in which we discovered that media existed since the dawn of the cavemen. We define media as a tool for information and thus can say that the cavemen possesses media as evidenced by their cave paintings, such as in Lascaux, France.

We can confirm that media has long existed since then and even the Egyptians possess their own Hieroglyphs and art as a form of media, as well as the Indus Civilization with their own media written in stone tablets.

This discussion allowed us to remember history and all of its wonders in relation to media. We were able to see how media truly evolved and how lucky we are to witness this development with our own eyes, an opportunity given to us since we are born in the modern age.

Here is my own tabulation of how media evolved through the ages:
Age

Equipment/Format to communicate
Equipment/Format to store information
Equipment/Format to share or broadcast info
Pre Industrial Age
People used clay tablets and other simple inventions to communicate with each other. These inventions can relay information from one person to another

People used papyrus and again also clay tablets to store information. These inventions can hold information to be interpreted by people

People used cave paintings and other simple machines such as a wooden printing press to broadcast information

Industrial Age

People used the telephone and telegraph, which is also known as the internet's grandfather, to communicate with each other over distances

People used typewriters and newspapers such as the London Gazette to store information

People used motion pictures and commercial motion pictures to broadcast and share different information

Electronic Age

People used radios and other improved devices from the industrial age to communicate with each other

People used revolutionary, at that time, computers to store information

People used the television to broadcast information

Information age
People used new different forms of media such as social media messengers to communicate effectively and over long distances

People used high tech computers to store information
People utilized new inventions such as high tech televisions, newspapers, radios, and internet sites such as YouTube and even social media.

Below are the answers to the assignment:

The roles and functions of available media in a democratic society is to be the “voice of the people”. This voice is the key to raise awareness and misconduct in our country and of the world, with this we possess a safeguard from the people in the government that only seek power and wealth. We are able to tackle issues and discuss them freely using media and inform other people of what we know, understand, and heard of. In these ways we can reduce the chances of the abuse of power and position in the government and prevent tyranny from ruining the democratic society that we live in today.

In the topic of social media, I believe that it has become part of who I am. My social image is built from social media in which some people who I have only heard of through social media, also knows about me through the very same medium of information. But this is not only the aspect of media that is important for me but also the academic aspect that provides useful information and data that I use to study and learn. In the future, media will only be more important as I grow due to the fact that I will often use e-mails for my future job and use it to help relay information to my peers.

In summary, media is an essential part of my life. A key for me to develop and progress and a tool for me to utilize for the future. Media heavily affects my lifestyle and the way I progress in life.
